Eintracht must suffer after the Bayern spectacle
Eintracht Frankfurt first humiliates FC Bayern Munich, followed a few days later by a hangover: the Bundesliga club loses a meaningless game in the Conference League - and pays for the defeat with two injured players.
Too strong for FC Bayern, too weak for FC Aberdeen: Eintracht Frankfurt finished the meaningless Conference League match with two injured key players and suffered a sporting setback to boot. Five days after the furious 5:1 victory over the record champions from Munich, the club from Hesse lost 2:0 (0:1) in Scotland and finished the group stage with three wins and three defeats.
Even before the game, in which striker Duk (41st minute) and Ester Sokler (74th) scored for the hosts in front of 14,474 spectators, it was clear that Frankfurt would finish the group stage in second place behind PAOK Thessaloniki. Eintracht will play a third-placed Europa League team on February 15 and 22 in the play-offs of the knockout round. As the winner of the preliminary round, Saloniki will go straight through to the round of 16, which will be played in March.
100 fans, two injured players
Coach Dino Toppmöller was probably more upset by the injuries than the defeat. Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe had to be substituted after just a few minutes. The scorer of two goals in the Bayern game twisted his ankle and is now in danger of missing the remaining games at Bayer Leverkusen (Sunday) and against Borussia Mönchengladbach (Wednesday). Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was substituted at half-time and was replaced by substitute Jens Grahl. In Trapp's case, it could also have been a precautionary measure.
It was not easy for Eintracht to find motivation for the game on the British Isles. Not only the sporting incentive was missing, but also the support of their own fans, who were not allowed to attend due to the misbehavior at the guest match in Helsinki. Nevertheless, more than 100 supporters made their way to the stadium to watch Aberdeen FC, who had already been eliminated from international competition before the sixth matchday.
Sporting director Timmo Hardung told RTL in advance: "It's a natural reflex to want to win and be better than your opponent. On the one hand, you don't want to break the rhythm, on the other hand you want to spread the load." Every game is "important". Eintracht then had a lot of control and the better chances, but in contrast to the gala against Bayern, there was a lack of efficiency. Duk did better and punished the visitors mercilessly. It was the Scots' first real chance. After the break, Sokler scored after outstanding preparatory work by Dante Polvara.

Despite their triumph over Bayern, Eintracht Frankfurt struggled in the UEFA Europa League, with key players Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe and Kevin Trapp getting injured during a 2:0 loss to Aberdeen. This setback came five days after their impressive 5:1 victory against Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich in the UEFA Europa League.
Despite missing their injured star players, Eintracht Frankfurt faced Aberdeen in the UEFA Europa League, where they controlled the game but lacked efficiency, ultimately losing 2:0 to the Scottish team. This result meant Frankfurt finished second in their group and would play a third-placed Europa League team in the play-offs.
