Eiffel Tower ticket costs will increase by 20% for renovation expenses.

Tickets to reach the top of the iconic Paris landmark, the Eiffel Tower, will now cost €35.30 ($38.31) for adults, starting June 17. This is an increase from €29.40 ($31.91) before. The price for children aged between 12 and 14 years is €17.70 ($19.21), and €8.90 ($9.66) for those between 4 and 11 years old.

The recent price hike is attributed to a 'substantial loss of revenue' during the health crisis between 2020 and 2022, according to French news outlet BFMTV. In 2020, the number of visitors to the Eiffel Tower dropped from 6.2 million to a meager 1.6 million. The next year recorded a slight improvement with 2.1 million visitors. Despite the decline in tourists, the operating costs remained three times the Eiffel Tower's overall earnings.

Furthermore, BFMTV also mentions that expenses related to renovation work and "lead prevention measures" associated with painting the tower have contributed to the price increase. These renovations are expected to continue until 2027, alongside work on the elevators which may lead to occasional closures.

CNN has requested a comment from the Eiffel Tower's operating company, Sociéte d’Exploitation de la tour Eiffel (SETE).
