Eberl clarifies misunderstanding around Bayern's hunt for a new coach.

FC Bayern kicks off the season with Vincent Kompany as coach. Initially, he wasn't the top pick, as revealed by sporting director Max Eberl. Despite this, Eberl expresses confidence in the new man. Additionally, Eberl debunks a rumor.

Max Eberl of FC Bayern has big hopes for Vincent Kompany - although the new coach wasn't the first choice for Munich's football club. Kompany's young and reasonably successful career didn't guarantee him a spot at Bayern, according to Eberl, who spoke with the "Sueddeutsche Zeitung". Bayern chose someone who strives, works hard, and has a vision. They selected someone who aligns with Bayern's mentality: winning.

Eberl found it peculiar that they didn't all agree on who should be the coach. None of the decision-makers rejected any candidates, he said, but they had continuous debates. "Is that person suitable?" was their constant query. Now, Kompany, signed to a contract until 2027, appears to be the right choice - and in line with Eberl's objectives, he expects Kompany to promote a youthful playing style. "We're not aiming for a revolution, but for progress," he noted, emphasizing that Bayern wants to prioritize their academy and foster talent. "To achieve that, we need the right coach. We're looking to bring in young individuals who will become the faces of Bayern in the next five to six years."

Kompany must also reintroduce "drive," as Eberl mentioned, because, over the years of seemingly inevitable success, "a touch of enthusiasm has diminished." Kompany must be "a little bit more of a people person, not a figurehead," he and sports director Christoph Freund stated, planning to support the 38-year-old as a "partner."

In an interview with ntv.de, ex-Bayern midfielder Owen Hargreaves offers pleasant remarks about Kompany: "I'm a huge fan of Vinnie. He's a great guy, a great leader, and a big captain." In his final year of playing, Hargreaves met Kompany at Manchester City. Kompany's coaching style was supposedly what won over the Bayern management at Säbener Straße. "Bayern wants someone who facilitates an offensive and aggressive style of play," explained the two-time Champions League champion.

Hargreaves, who will work as an expert during the Euros for Magenta TV, believes that his former club should offer patience to their new head coach: "Bayern has to be patient with Kompany. In the past year, they've fired Tuchel, Nagelsmann, and Flick. They're taking a different approach this time around, which was likely a surprise for Kompany himself."
