- Dutch contingent holds the front position.
Following a setback, striker Niclas Füllkrug is forced to temporarily step away from Germany's flagship football match in the Nations League against the Netherlands. Nagelsmann, the national coach, explained, "It's not severe, but the location is problematic as it's adjacent to the Achilles tendon at the back of his calf. A mishap could lead to an extended absence. Given the potential risks, we've chosen to exercise caution." Over RTL TV, Nagelsmann shared these remarks prior to the encounter with the Oranje in the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Füllkrug is currently back in London with his club, West Ham United. Nagelsmann continued, "He'll need some downtime. He won't feature in this weekend's Premier League game."
Füllkrug had featured in the starting lineup and netted the first goal in the 5-0 victory over Hungary during the Nations League debut last Saturday in Düsseldorf. That was his 14th international goal from only 22 appearances. However, his practice session in Amsterdam's arena on Monday evening faltered due to injury, even with a bandage wrapped around his lower leg.
In his place for the Dutch match, Deniz Undav was selected to start. This was Undav's fourth international appearance, and the first time he's commenced from the get-go as a starter for Stuttgart.
The German national football team's Commission discussed Füllkrug's injury situation and decided to replace him in the match against the Netherlands. Nagelsmann consulted with The Commission before making the decision to allow Füllkrug some downtime.
