Duplantis Breaks His Tenth Pole Vault Record Mark

Despite setting his tenth record-breaking leap in pole vaulting, Armand Duplantis of Sweden isn't fully satisfied with his performance. He believes there's still room for improvement and breaking more records. Recently, he shattered an ancient world record at the Diamond League meeting.

Armand Duplantis elevated his pole vaulting record by a mere centimeter, only 20 days following his Olympic triumph in Paris. During the Diamond League event in Chorzów, Poland, "Mondo" cleared an impressive 6.26 meters on his second attempt. This marks his tenth world record, with his inaugural achievement achieved in Poland's Toruń, where he soared to 6.17 meters indoors in February 2020.

"Obviously, there were many spectators eager to witness my performance, which propelled me to perform well," said Duplantis, explaining his 20-day feat. "This year, my focus was on the Olympics, and the record came naturally as I was in peak form. I always strive to jump as high as possible and push myself further. I've never made a jump that felt completely perfect, hence I always feel that I can improve."

Duplantis cleared 5.62 meters, 5.92 meters, and 6.00 meters on his introductory attempts. On his record-breaking attempt, he barely missed rubbing the bar, but it held its ground. The crowd erupted in applause and fireworks as Duplantis triumphantly exited the mat, sprinting onto the track, and indulging in wild celebrations. He ultimately bested the field, including American Olympic silver medalist Sam Kendricks and Greek Emmanouil Karalis, who clinched the national record on Sunday, both achieving 6.00 meters.

Prior to Duplantis' astonishing record-breaking feat, Norwegian track sword, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, previously demolished a standing athletics world record. The 5000-meter Olympic champion blitzed through the non-Olympic 3000 meters in a remarkable 7:17.55 minutes. The 23-year-old surpassed Daniel Komen's time, which was previously the record, established on September 1, 1996, in Rieti, by over three seconds.

Armand Duplantis' tenth record-breaking jump in pole vaulting at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzów, Poland, surpassed the previous world record. Despite achieving this remarkable feat, Duplantis continues to set his sights on breaking even more records in the future.
