DSV women third in the relay - Norway wins

The German biathletes have confirmed their strong start to the season and also achieved a podium finish in the first relay race of the new World Cup winter.

Janina Hettich-Walz, Selina Grotian, Vanessa Voigt and Franziska Preuß finished third on Wednesday in Östersund, Sweden. For the women, it was enough for the podium for the third time in the second race of the still young World Championship winter.

Only four reloads

The DSV quartet only had four reloads in icy temperatures and only had to give way to the victorious Norwegians and the Swedish team after 4x6 kilometers. The gap to Norway at the finish was 47.9 seconds.

Three days earlier, Preuß had finished second behind Italy's Lisa Vittozzi, missing out on her first win of the season by just 0.1 seconds. Voigt had also finished on the podium in third place. The German team was unable to field its best team at short notice as Sophia Schneider was spared with a sore throat. She was replaced by 19-year-old Grotian, who was competing in a World Cup relay for the first time.

The German biathlon team's stellar performance in the World Cup winter continued, as they secured a third-place finish in the relay, trailing only Norway. This achievement marks their third podium finish in the relay events of the young World Championship winter.

Despite the challenging icy conditions, the DSV quartet of Janina Hettich-Walz, Selina Grotian, Vanessa Voigt, and Franziska Preuß managed to complete their race with just four reloads, ensuring they were in contention for a podium spot in the World Cup.
