Draisaitl's Oilers exhibit their resilient nature.
Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers earn a crucial victory in their bid for the Stanley Cup. Following two consecutive losses, the team defeats the Dallas Stars impressively in the fourth quarterfinal match. The Oilers display their ability to bounce back.
The Edmonton Oilers, spearheaded by the German hockey sensation Leon Draisaitl, have evened the semi-final series in the NHL at 2-2 with their initial home win over the Dallas Stars. After a 3-5 home defeat, the Oilers outscore the Stars 5-2 (2-2, 2-0, 1-0). The best-of-seven series is now set to return to Dallas, where the fifth game will take place on Friday. The team with four victories will move on to the final series.
In the aftermath of not registering any goals in the past two matches, the Cologne-born Draisaitl found the back of the net once more and secured a 4-2 lead at the conclusion of the second period. This marked the Oilers' impressive comeback. With ten goals in the playoffs, Draisaitl ranks second in the NHL, behind compatriot Zach Hyman. Draisaitl is now the first Oilers player since Esa Tikkanen in 1990-1991 to score at least ten times in two consecutive playoff seasons.
Oilers captain Connor McDavid remarked about their previous home loss when they lost despite a 2-0 lead despite a 2-0 starting point, remarking, "In the third game, our start didn't work out—and we still lost. Now it was the opposite. Everyone fought, it was an essential win." The Oilers are aiming to secure their first Stanley Cup win since 1990 this season. Back in 1990, Edmonton reached the Conference Final like this year, but was convincingly defeated by the eventual champion Colorado Avalanche (0-4).
In the other semi-final, it's also a tie at 2-2 between the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers. Game five is slated for late Friday evening at Madison Square Garden.
