Frequently, during the initial phase of the NHL season, Leon Draisaitl's squad often found themselves trailing behind the Jets, while the Oilers were leading.

Draisaitl's inaugural campaign commences with a house run mishap.

Despite their intentions to make a strong comeback and reach the Stanley Cup Finals once more, the Edmonton Oilers, headed by German hockey star Leon Draisaitl, ended up losing humiliatingly in their opening game of the NHL season. The Oilers, renowned for their relentless offense, fell short in delivering the final blow, losing 0:6 to the Winnipeg Jets in their home turf, the Rogers Place.

"Obviously, this wasn't the kickoff we were hoping for," Draisaitl stated, voicing his disappointment. "We made some blunders that directly led to goals against. In crunch times like these, we need to be more aware." But he added that these were mistakes "we're well-acquainted with; we just need to sort 'em out pronto." Upcoming, they've got a faceoff against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, aiming for a "better show."

Exactly 106 days have passed since the heartbreaking elimination in game seven of the NHL Finals against the Florida Panthers. The Oilers had a tough time at Rogers Place, firing 30 shots at the net (three from Draisaitl), but only scraping the competition's level of efficiency. They were already down by 0:5 at the end of the second period.

This loss, however, isn't expected to deter the team. They've encountered setbacks like this before. Last season started off on a sour note as well, with a 1:8 loss against the Vancouver Canucks. Out of their initial twelve games, they managed to win just two.

The hunger for victory in Edmonton is palpable. Despite missing out on the Stanley Cup three times in a row, to the eventual champions each time, the Oilers, led by the $112 million eight-year contract man, Draisaitl, are determined to secure the ultimate triumph this season. Their first match, though, was anything but promising.

Despite their struggles in the opening game, the Edmonton Oilers still hoped to showcase their skills in ice hockey. Regardless of the humiliating loss, they aimed to improve their game in their upcoming match against the Chicago Blackhawks, focusing on reducing mistakes in critical moments.
