The Oilers frequently found themselves trailing behind the Jets during the early stages of the NHL season, as viewed from Leon Draisaitl's team's point of view.

Draisaitl's domestic campaign commences with a distressing return home.

In their inaugural match of the NHL season, the Edmonton Oilers, led by German hockey sensation Leon Draisaitl, endured a disheartening blow. Despite being a Stanley Cup finalist in the previous campaign, they suffered a 0:6 defeat at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets at home.

"This wasn't the beginning we hoped for," Draisaitl conceded, acknowledging some errors led directly to goals. He urged for swift rectification, "We need to tackle these issues head-on." Their upcoming encounter with the Chicago Blackhawks offers a chance for an improved display.

After a 106-day hiatus following their nail-biting Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers, the Oilers have yet to reach top form. During the game, they fired 30 shots on goal, with three coming from Draisaitl. In contrast, the Jets proved more efficient, scoring on only 20 attempts. Adam Lowry opened scoring in the 15th minute, and the visitors held a commanding 5:0 lead by the end of the second period. Mark Scheifele sealed the deal in the final stretch.

Despite the setback, the Oilers show no signs of losing their drive for the coveted Stanley Cup. While their most recent opener did not suggest signs of success, history suggests that the team can recover from sluggish starts. In 2021-22, the Oilers started their campaign with a crushing 1:8 loss to the Vancouver Canucks and dropped ten out of their initial twelve games. Undeterred by their current form, the Oilers remain unrelenting in their pursuit of the cup, led by Draisaitl – set to become the highest-paid NHL player next year after inking an eight-year, $112 million contract – and their determination to clinch the Stanley Cup remains undiminished, despite an underwhelming opening game.

"Despite the disappointing start, the Edmonton Oilers hope to turn things around in their next sports event, which is against the Chicago Blackhawks."

"Regardless of their poor performance in the NHL's opening game, the Oilers' ambition to win the Stanley Cup remains undiminished, as demonstrated by Leon Draisaitl's determination to lead the team."
