Draisaitl begins goal-less and anxious during the NHL finals.
Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers had a tough first game against the Florida Panthers in the NHL Finals, as they fired 32 shots at the Panthers' goal but couldn't score a single one. The Panthers, on the other hand, managed to score three goals with just 18 shots. Goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovsky was the hero of the game, blocking all 32 shots, earning him the title of "man of the match."
It was a disappointing start for Draisaitl, who is a German ice hockey star and part of the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers were heavily favored going into the game, but the Panthers were able to secure a 3-0 victory. Bobrovsky played a crucial role in this win, stopping all of Draisaitl's shots. The first goal came from Carter Verhaeghe, followed by Evan Rodrigues and Eetu Luostarinen.
Connor McDavid, another star player for the Oilers, expressed his frustration saying, "Perhaps the hockey gods are punishing us for the flattering success in game six of the Western Conference finals against the Dallas Stars." However, he remains confident in the team's abilities, saying, "I know that this group will keep going and will catch up again. We will prepare for a big game."
The Oilers will have another opportunity to win their first game in the series in the second match, which will be held on Tuesday night at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. The last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup was in 1993, while the last time the Oilers won it was in 1990. Draisaitl has made it to the NHL Finals for the first time, making him the ninth German to achieve this feat.
The Panthers, who lost the Stanley Cup Finals to the Vegas Golden Knights last year, had a successful first match. The Edmonton Oilers' offense put up a valiant effort but couldn't break through Bobrovsky's defense. Despite having two of the best playoff scorers in McDavid (31 points) and Draisaitl (28), they couldn't score, and even their usually strong powerplay failed. The turning point came when Rodrigues scored the second goal just five seconds into the second period. Luostarinen then sealed the win with a goal into an empty net.
