Athletic Competition at the Olympics - DOSB proposes an additional 53 athletes for the Paris event.

The German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) has chosen 53 more athletes to compete in the upcoming Summer Games in Paris. The chosen ones hail from swimming (24), diving (9), shooting (7), judo (7), and triathlon (6). This announcement brings the total participants to 66, split equally between females and males.

One of the more well-known names in this second round of nominations is the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist, Florian Wellbrock. He is set to compete in open water swimming for 10 kilometers and the 1500 and 800-meter freestyle in the pool. However, a twist in the selection process sees Wellbrock represented in the 800 meters instead of Klemet, who was nominated for the 400 meters and the open water swimming.

Other notable names include world champion in the 100 meters butterfly, Angelina Köhler, and European champions Isabel Gose and Lukas Märtens in the field of swimming. Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist and current world champion in judo, Anna-Maria Wagner, will also be present. Diver Lena Hentschel hopes for a bronze medal in Paris following her previous three Olympic appearances. Meanwhile, Rio Olympics champion Christian Reitz is one of the shooters chosen to represent Germany.

The DOSB plans to reveal even more athletes for the games, happening from July 26th to August 11th, with projections of more than 400 female and male participants. In comparison, the London Olympics in 2012 saw 407 athletes, which increased to 452 in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and finally, 434 in Tokyo in 2021.
