Dortmund in the cup round of 16 in Stuttgart
German runners-up Borussia Dortmund must play Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. This was the result of the draw at the German Football Museum in Dortmund.
In addition, Bayern conqueror 1. FC Saarbrücken from the 3rd soccer league will face last year's finalists Eintracht Frankfurt. A second all-Bundesliga clash will take place on December 5 or 6 between Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg.
Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will face SC Paderborn, while second-division clubs Hertha BSC and Hamburger SV will also meet. The only remaining fourth-division team, FC 08 Homburg, will host FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Magdeburg will play Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Kaiserslautern will be at home to 1. FC Nürnberg. The draw was made by para-cyclist Denise Schindler.
The round of 16 matches will be played at the beginning of December, with the first quarter-finals taking place at the end of January. The final will take place on May 25 in Berlin's Olympic Stadium. Defending champions RB Leipzig (0:1 against VfL Wolfsburg) and record winners FC Bayern Munich (1:2 at 1. FC Saarbrücken) were eliminated in the second round. For the first time in more than 30 years, only six clubs from the Bundesliga have reached the round of 16. This was previously only the case in the 1992/93 season.
Borussia Dortmund, having been drawn against VfB Stuttgart in the DFB Cup's round of sixteen, will face their Bundesliga rivals in Stuttgart. Following the draw, Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will take on second-division side SC Paderborn.
