Dominator Djokovic still not satisfied after record win
After the next milestone in his impressive career, Novak Djokovic could actually take a well-deserved vacation. But although the world number one has won three Grand Slam tournaments this year and also secured a record victory at the ATP Finals on Sunday evening, he is not yet finished with the tennis season.
From Turin, Djokovic heads straight on to Malaga in Spain, where the final round of the Davis Cup is scheduled for this week. "This is a very important week for us as a team, for Serbia as a sporting nation," said the 36-year-old after his remarkable demonstration of power in the final of the ATP Finals against crowd favorite Jannik Sinner.
Incredibly successful year
Djokovic crowned an incredibly successful year with triumphs in Melbourne, Paris and New York with his seventh title win at the season finale for the eight best players. Only at Wimbledon had Djokovic been beaten in the final by the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in an epic five-set match.
In Turin, Djokovic struggled to get going at first and lost to Sinner in the group stage. It was only thanks to the Italian's help that he even reached the semi-finals. But from then on, Djokovic was a different player. He was more focused, more concentrated and more dominant in his two two-set victories against Alcaraz in the semi-final and Sinner in the final. "When the real Novak Djokovic steps onto the court, nobody can keep up with him at the moment," said his coach Goran Ivanisevic.
After securing the record victory at the ATP Finals, Novak Djokovic expressed the importance of the upcoming Davis Cup in Malaga, stating, "This is a very important week for us as a team, for Serbia as a sporting nation." In the final of the ATP Finals, Djokovic outplayed crowd favorite Jannik Sinner, showing his dominance in tennis, as Italian Sinner had previously aided Djokovic in reaching the semi-finals.
