In a dramatic turn of events at the Masters 1000 competition in Rome, top-ranked tennis star Novak Djokovic received a water bottle to the head after defeating Frenchman Corentin Moutet with relative ease, 6:3, 6:1. Witnesses and spectators described the scene as Djokovic walking by, signing autographs, when the bottle suddenly fell from above, hitting him on the head. The 36-year-old Serb dropped the pen he was using to autograph, momentarily losing his balance. Initially, people thought it was a targeted attack, but it turned out to be just an accident.
After the incident, a representative for the Italian Tennis Federation (FITP) spoke with AFP, stating that Djokovic's head bled slightly, but there was no indication he would withdraw from the event.
