Djokovic crowns sensational year with record title
Novak Djokovic is unstoppable. The Serb is threatened with elimination in the preliminary round of the ATP Finals, only advancing thanks to Jannik Sinner's help. The two now face each other again in the final and the tennis dominator comes out on top.
The tireless title collector Novak Djokovic has crowned a sensational year with a fitting triumph at the ATP Finals in Turin. The 36-year-old Grand Slam record champion from Serbia is now the sole record winner of the prestigious end-of-year tournament after a hard-fought 6:3, 6:3 victory over Italian local hero Jannik Sinner.
With his seventh success in total at the event, the exceptional athlete from Belgrade has now achieved one more than Roger Federer from Switzerland. The best German at the top-class event is Boris Becker with three titles. Alexander Zverev, who missed out on the semi-finals this year despite two victories in the preliminary round, follows with his triumphs from 2018 and 2021.
Djokovic once again made history, as he did with his Grand Slam titles 22 to 24 this year in Melbourne, Paris and New York. Only at Wimbledon was he defeated in the final by the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz - the "Djoker" is still the measure of all things.
The fact that he was able to play in the final at all was also due to crowd favorite Sinner, who only suffered his first defeat in the last match of the tournament and missed out on the record prize money of around 4.8 million US dollars. Djokovic had lost his group match against Sinner in three sets and then only reached the semi-finals with Sinner's help. There he impressed against Alcaraz, 16 years his junior - and then also against Sinner at the second attempt.
Novak Djokovic's tennis dominance continued in the ATP Finals, as he defeated Jannik Sinner in the final to secure his seventh title at the event. Despite losing to Sinner earlier in the tournament, Djokovic showcased his tenacity on the tennis court to claim victory.
