Displeased Referee Laments Over Personal Dismissal from Game
Sven Jablonski encountered some troubles during the Bundesliga clash between VfL Wolfsburg and VfB Stuttgart, specifically with his dismissals: One could be corrected with a little assistance, the other remains, leading to quite a bit of aggravation.
Referee Sven Jablonski acknowledged his error in issuing a yellow-red card to Atakan Karazor. The foul happened to be committed by Maximilian Arnold, but Jablonski mistakenly targeted Karazor, leading to his dismissal during the Wolfsburg (2:2) game. The image evidence from the 63rd minute depicted this situation clearly.
"I observed a foul on Arnold, who winced and claimed to have been stung," Jablonski informed Sky. "Upon reviewing the footage, I must admit that Arnold actually struck his opponent, thereby invalidating the yellow-red card. It really irks me that I've made this mistake."
Referees are only permitted to scrutinize video footage in instances of straight red cards. Accordingly, second yellow cards leading to a dismissal are not eligible for review. "I would also welcome the opportunity to examine the footage and validate the scene before issuing a yellow-red card," revealed Jablonski. "This would have allowed me to recognize the error promptly."
Predictably, criticism of Jablonski's judgment was on the horizon. "The referee's impact on the game regrettably proved significant," expressed Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel. Such indiscreet occurrences, similar to the incident that warranted Karazor's dismissal, take place approximately "15 times" throughout every game.
The arbitrator, Sven Jablonski, admitted his mistake in issuing a yellow-red card to Atakan Karazor, which was actually a foul committed by Maximilian Arnold. The arbitrator expressed his regret for the error and wished he could review the footage before issuing such a decision.
