Displaced Manuel Riemann initiates a legal action against VfL Bochum
Manuel Riemann and VfL Bochum are at odds, leading to legal action. The well-liked former first-choice goalkeeper can no longer practice with the professional team following a heated argument during the relegation fight in May. He's currently challenging this decision in court.
The disagreement between Manuel Riemann and VfL Bochum has resulted in a court case. The goalkeeper has filed a lawsuit against the Bundesliga club, and as per the labor court in Bochum's announcement, Riemann is demanding to partake in the professional team's training. Before the end of the season and the relegation game against Fortuna Düsseldorf, VfL had temporarily suspended Riemann with pay, citing "irreconcilable differences of opinion concerning team-related matters."
Reports suggest that Riemann had ongoing disputes with teammates. According to the club, this was not seen as a "suspension or punishment." Regrettably, even at the commencement of the new season's preparation, the goalkeeper was still excluded. VfL stated on the opening day of training that Riemann would "not be participating in the training operations for the time being." Despite some setbacks, Riemann had earlier been an undisputed figure in Bochum, having played 290 competitive games for the club since his transfer in 2015.
In the interim, two new goalkeepers, Patrick Drewes and Timo Horn, have been signed. Riemann's contract extends till the summer of 2025. The Bochum club proposes that the goalkeeper join the U21 team's training, which has been reintroduced in the fifth-tier Oberliga, or train individually with one of the goalkeeping coaches. The conciliation hearing pertaining to this issue is scheduled for next Friday (12:20 PM). As per "Funke Medien," Riemann has yet to settle for the club's proposed settlement offer.
