DFB terminates contract with national coach

Rumors and talk of lawyers have come to an end: Martina Voss-Tecklenburg has been dismissed as national coach 13 weeks after the World Cup debacle. The German Football Association (DFB) announced the end of the months-long stand-off. The women's national team is already being coached by Horst Hrubesch on an interim basis in the Olympic qualifiers, and the future is open.

The separation is the result of a joint meeting on Friday, the DFB announced. The shareholders' meeting and the supervisory board of DFB GmbH & Co KG approved the move at a meeting on Saturday.

Under Voss-Tecklenburg's leadership, the two-time world champions failed to reach the group stage for the first time at the World Cup in Australia this summer. During the subsequent analysis of the tournament, Voss-Tecklenburg fell ill, after which the association allowed her to take a vacation. During this time, the 55-year-old caused a stir with talks at conferences and a statement on her Instagram channel.

The 125-time international took up the post at the end of 2018. She was knocked out of the 2019 World Cup in the quarter-finals and reached the 2022 European Championship final against England (1:2 n.V.). Her contract was extended in the spring until the 2025 European Championships.

The German Football Association (DFB) made the decision to terminate Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's contract as the national coach of the Women's soccer team, following her poor performance at the World Cup. Horst Hrubesch is currently serving as the interim coach for the Women's soccer team in the Olympic qualifiers, as the future of the team's leadership remains uncertain.
