DFB team wins - European Championship top TV ratings
Not quite as many TV viewers as against Switzerland, but still a new market share high: The entry of the DFB team into the UEFA European Football Championship quarterfinals delivers another viewing peak for the TV broadcasters. Previously, the victory of Switzerland had already brought RTL a record.
Germany advances to the quarterfinals at the UEFA European Football Championship and attracts millions of people to their screens once again. The Achtelfinal match of the national team against Denmark (2:0), which was interrupted by bad weather over Dortmund for approximately 25 minutes, was followed by an average of 23.64 million people on ZDF on Saturday evening - slightly fewer than before. The market share amounted to 76.8 percent and was the highest in the entire tournament so far.
RTL had a very successful day. For the first Achtelfinal match after 18:00 between Switzerland and title defenders Italy (2:0), RTL can announce new records. The match was followed by a peak of 10.07 million football fans. On average, the RTL transmission from the Berlin Olympic Stadium attracted 7.74 million viewers and thus more than any previous live transmission of the tournament on the channel. With the overall audience, the match achieved a record market share of 45.9 percent. In the target groups of 14-59-year-olds (55.3) and 14-49-year-olds (59.1), the Achtelfinal match set new records for RTL.
The second match of the day - Germany against Denmark - was in overall terms on a par with the dimensions of the three group matches of the German team against Scotland (ZDF/22.49, MA:69.0), Hungary (ARD/23.89, MA: 76.7), and Switzerland (25.57/73.4). MagentaTV also broadcast the match on Saturday evening, as well as all 51 matches of the tournament.
It is not possible to determine the viewership figures for the linear television regarding how many people followed the match against Denmark at public viewings or in pubs or watched it on streams.
At the UEFA European Football Championship 2021, every German game had an average viewership of over 20 million, the elimination game against England was watched by 27.36 million people. The records of the 2014 World Cup will not be broken: The German final victory over Argentina was watched by 34.65 million women and men in TV.
Despite the interruption due to bad weather, the Germany vs Denmark match on ZDF attracted a high viewership of 23.64 million viewers, making it the highest market share in the tournament so far. The national soccer team's success on RTL also continues, as the Italy vs Switzerland match set a new record with 10.07 million viewers and a 45.9% market share.
