DFB international Anton joins BVB
Football-National player Waldemar Anton is switching from Stuttgart to Dortmund. The interior defender receives a four-year contract from the Champions League finalist - and is stepping into big footsteps.
The transfer of the coveted Football-National player Waldemar Anton to Borussia Dortmund is perfect. The BVB announced on Monday the signing of the 27-year-old interior defender, who comes from VfB Stuttgart and receives a contract until June 2028. The Stuttgarter had already confirmed earlier that Anton would leave.
Anton's contract with the EM participant at the Swabians was valid until the summer of 2027. Anton had signed this only in the spring, and the BVB is now using an exit clause, reportedly worth 22 million Euros in the media. In Dortmund, Anton is set to replace the first new signing of the transfer period, Mats Hummels, whose contract was not extended.
"I originally didn't plan to leave the club - but then came Borussia Dortmund. A top club that had just reached the Champions League final," said Anton, who was on the field for the National team in the EM quarterfinals against Spain when they were eliminated: "That shows the potential in this club. All BVB responsible people have given me the feeling from the beginning that they really wanted to sign me and that I can and should take on an important role. I was really looking forward to that."
Lars Ricken was particularly pleased that Anton had decided for Dortmund "despite top-class national and international transfer options." Anton had "developed into a top defender in the Bundesliga both sportingly and as a personality and had led his club to the Champions League lastly," said Dortmund's sports business manager.
Anton's move to Borussia Dortmund could potentially boost their performance in the upcoming Soccer Bundesliga season. With VfB Stuttgart, Anton was part of the team that qualified for the European Football Championship 2024, and his experience and skills in defense could be valuable for Borussia Dortmund as they aim to compete on both domestic and international levels.
