Soccer - DFB examines: whining rule also in the Bundesliga?
In the Bundesliga, captains may be the only ones allowed to discuss decisions with referees in the future. The heads of top referees at the German Football Association assessed this new UEFA instruction during the European Championship and will comment on it after the tournament.
Regarding whether and to what extent this UEFA instruction will apply in German professional football and will be discussed, the DFB stated in response to an inquiry from the German Press Agency: "We closely follow the performances and decisions of referees at the European Championship and thoroughly evaluate the findings from the entire tournament. This includes the implementation of the instruction that only the captains of the teams, who wish to discuss a decision with the referee, are allowed to do so. After the end of the EM and the completion of the assessment of the tournament, there will be a statement."
Rudelbildung (rude behavior) is prevented
The UEFA is implementing a new regulation at the EM, according to which only the team captains can complain to the referees about their decisions. Quick yellow cards can be issued for comments or reactions from other players. Times when a group of players argue with the referee should be a thing of the past. If the captain is the goalkeeper, a representative should be named on the field for the referee dialogue. In the previous games, there have been noticeably fewer discussions on the pitch than usual.
UEFA referee chief Roberto Rosetti stated before the start of the tournament: "These are top referees. They don't change their minds, they feel no pressure - why should they?" He himself has never taken back a decision in his three decades as a referee.
