Tour de France - Decisive vote: Pogacar wins tough Alpine stage
The total victory in the 111th Tour de France is barely taken from Tadej Pogacar anymore. The Slovenian won also the Alpine stage from Embrun to Isola 2000 and celebrated his fourth daily victory in this year's Grand Tour. Second place went to the American Matteo Jorgenson before the British Simon Yates.
In the general classification, Pogacar increased his lead over title defender Jonas Vingegaard to 5:03 minutes. The Dane was unable to keep up with Pogacar's attack about nine kilometers before the finish. The Belgian Remco Evenepoel is 7:01 minutes behind in third place.
However, with the Alpine stage from Nice to Col de la Couillole on Saturday and the final time trial from Monaco to Nice still two stages to go, the shown performances make it doubtful that Pogacar can be displaced from the top of the overall standings. The 25-year-old can probably only be stopped by a fall or illness.
