DEB team begins an exemplary fresh chapter
Germany's national ice hockey squad experienced two big setbacks but have bounced back with an essential triumph in the World Cup. The runners-up in the world championship are now making waves.
The German ice hockey team is heading towards the quarter-finals after achieving their greatest triumph at a World Championship in 19 years in the Czech Republic. Following their two crushing defeats against the title-contenders USA and Sweden, the runners-up triumphed 8:1 (2:0, 5:1, 1:0) over last year's third-placed team Latvia in the fourth preliminary round match.
Dominik Kahun (6), Kai Wissmann (19), Leo Pföderl (21), Parker Tuomie (23), John-Jason Peterka (26, 36), Marc Michaelis (31), and Nico Sturm (45) scored for the squad led by national coach Harold Kreis. Markuss Komuls (40) found the back of the net for Latvia. The German team now needs to win two more out of their final three matches to move forward in Group B.
Germany will compete in their fifth group game against Kazakhstan on Friday. This will be followed by clashes against Poland (Saturday) and France (Tuesday).
