Basketball - DBB-Team at Olympic opening: Not about strangeness

Approximately 200 kilometers are the distance for the Basketball players to attend the Olympic-Opening Ceremony in Paris - no obstacle for Germany's basketball team. The world champions want to be there, even though the opening day features a match against Japan the following day. "We have decided as a team that we will go," announced captain Dennis Schröder after the 95:50 test game against the Dutch in Hamburg.

Is that wise? The former Brunswick player says: "We know that we have a game the following day as well. And that everyone will then behave professionally, get enough sleep, and receive treatment..." The 30-year-old professional from the Brooklyn Nets, a long-term millionaire, says: "You can't buy that experience with any amount of money in the world. That's an experience you just have to take with you."

Only 24 hours after the Olympic opening ceremony, it's on to the first group game against Japan (July 27, 13.30 PM) at Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Villeneuve-d'Ascq in the Metropol-Region Lille. In Group B, Brazil waits on July 30, and on August 2, Olympic host France. We won against the French in preparation, but there was a loss as well.

Will Schröder carry the German flag?

In Olympic preparation, there's a game in Berlin against the Japanese on Friday. "We've had 14 intense days as a team. Today was also a good game again, but we need to improve," Schröder said. Best scorer against the Dutch was Andreas Obst, who scored 18 points on his 28th birthday. Daniel Theis scored 16 points on his comeback. Captain Schröder scored 13 points. Dennis Schröder would be more than happy to lead the German Olympic team as flag bearer - a duel with Alexander Zverev is in the making. The tennis pro has made his ambitions clear as well. The German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB) will soon meet to select a preliminary squad and propose three men and three women. Both fans and German Olympic athletes will then be able to vote on which athlete and which athlete will carry the flag in Paris.
