Darmstadt narrowly escapes worst loss in history.

SV Darmstadt 98 sadly ended their time at home with a miserable match: in their last game of the season at their stadium, the already demoted team suffered a crushing defeat. TSG Hoffenheim used this opportunity to apply immense pressure on Eintracht Frankfurt with their monumental win and can wonder about Champions League soccer once again.

TSG Hoffenheim scored an incredible victory, managing a 6-0 win against already dejected and powerless SV Darmstadt 98 on the final round of games. Thanks to this triumph, TSG now sits in the sixth position - and even dreams about participating in the Champions League.

Merely reaching sixth place could permit TSG to make it into the top flight if Borussia Dortmund win the current year's championship against Real Madrid on June 1st. Nonetheless, TSG still needs to surpass 3 points and 3 goals against Eintracht Frankfurt in the remaining game this season against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Ihlas Bebou (2nd, 51st), Maximilian Beier (6th, 44th), Pavel Kaderabek (22nd), and Ozan Kabak (26th) all added to the impressive victory. TSG managed a 6-0 victory previously against Cologne in March 2018. Their best-ever away performance, 5 goals were scored at Hertha BSC in December 2014.

The Lilies, who lost their status two weeks ago, had a dismaying presentation on their final Bundesliga home match. At the noontime match, numerous Darmstadt players seemed uninterested in the game, perhaps thinking about their approaching break.

Hoffenheim ventured to the southern Hesse area with excitement: "We are well aware of what is at stake. We must go all out," stated TSG coach Pellegrino Matarazzo. Hoffenheim's players followed his lead: Florian Grillitsch promptly passed to Bebou, who successfully bypassed the Lilies keeper Alexander Brunst and shot.

Hoffenheim charged ahead and were now in full force: Beier completed his pass towards the goal, making the score 2-0. The drowsy home team occasionally entered their opponents' penalty area. They dictated the match – and scored again: Kaderabek used the left post's inside to secure the 4-0 score. Another corner kick signaled goal number 5: Kabak finished the opportunity with a header.

The hosts' performance was not befitting a first or second division team. The home fans' affectionate sentiments turned into angry whistles, particularly when Beier scored his second goal before the half-time whistle. The visitors notched six targets after the break: Bebou had an easy time in the penalty area against three Lilies defensemen. Darmstadt still failed to get a handle on the match, and their counterattacks were unsuccessful. TSG failed to create more opportunities to increase their lead.

On the final matchday, SV Darmstadt 98 had arranged more goals in a Bundesliga home game than ever: on the finale day of the 1978/79 season, they surrendered 7-1 to VfB Stuttgart. Escaping this new record by a narrow margin should not bring consolations on that gloomy afternoon.
