Da Silva wins high-speed battle at Cage Warriors

From the small town of Albstadt to the metropolis of London: Shawn da Silva's dream of the big MMA stage is taking shape. The 27-year-old cage fighter lands his second victory at Cage Warriors - but has to work hard for it.

Shawn da Silva's success story at Cage Warriors continues. The German mixed martial arts fighter defeated Dutchman Gerardo Fanny on points (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at Cage Warriors 163 in London and extended his fight record to 6-0. The two flyweights (up to 56.7 kg) exchanged blows at top speed.

In the first round, da Silva, who lives in Albstadt, Swabia, began to dance around his opponent, repeatedly using feints and quick punch combinations. The 27-year-old's leg kicks were particularly effective. Fanny had to keep changing his stance to avoid kicks from the German-Brazilian, who caught the Dutchman's jab from time to time but landed far more punches.

After a spinning elbow, Fanny managed a takedown towards the end of the round, but the trained kickboxer was unable to capitalize on his good position on the ground - da Silva freed himself relatively easily and got back to standing.

In the second round, the Albstadt native from the Planet Eater Gym in Balingen stepped up a gear. The many feints and good evasive maneuvers from round one gave way to circling around his opponent, which was obviously a signal for Fanny to take control from the middle of the ring. The 29-year-old secured the round mainly with his jab, which regularly found its target, and he was also able to stop da Silva's leg kicks time and again.

Round three then developed into a real battle. Da Silva started to use knee strikes and took more risks. He had the better ideas in the clinch in particular, with several elbow strikes landing in the face of the Dutchman, who suffered several cuts. The judges decided in favor of da Silva, who started dancing after his second victory at Cage Warriors.
