Cooking shows are dropped from the afternoon program

Sat.1 is already turning its afternoon program upside down again. The cooking shows by Johann Lafer and Alexander Kumptner are being replaced.

Johann Lafer and Alexander Kumptner - Cooking shows are dropped from the afternoon program

Bad news for TV chefs Alexander Kumptner (41) and Johann Lafer (66). Their new shows "Three Courses for Lafer" (15:00 hours) and "The Snack Menu" (16:00 hours) will no longer air on Sat.1 afternoons after two months. Instead, starting Monday, July 15, there will be more episodes of the series "On Patrol".

Lafer and Kemptner slide to Saturday

"The cooking shows, 'Three Courses for Lafer' and 'The Snack Menu', unfortunately did not appeal to the mass taste on Sat.1 afternoons," explained a Sat.1 spokesperson to the news agency spot on news upon request. However, the shows will not completely disappear from the screen. "For the fans of the shows, we have good news: We will air five new episodes each on Saturdays starting at 1:00 PM, first 'Three Courses for Lafer' and later 'The Snack Menu'. Of course, the first broadcasts will still be available on Joyn."

The market shares remained significantly below Sat.1's expectations. Kumptner achieved an average of 4.4% in the target group, and Lafer 3.4%. Sat.1 CEO Marc Rasmus had expressed optimism before the start on May 13: "Cooking and baking is part of Sat.1's brand core," he was quoted in a press release. Rasmus referred to "The Taste" and "The Big Celebrity Baking Show", which were successful in primetime on Wednesdays. He was therefore looking forward to "two hours of cooking 'in the new Sat.1 afternoon'."

Seven hours "On Patrol"

The experiment seems to have failed for now. Starting July 15, Sat.1 will return to the tried-and-tested format "On Patrol" to stabilize viewer numbers. The scripted reality series will then air Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In addition to the three existing episodes and two episodes "On Patrol - The Experts", there will be an additional double episode. The "Life-savers close up - When every second counts" will start at 5:00 PM.

  1. Despite the disappointment, fans of Johann Lafer and Alexander Kumptner can still enjoy their cooking shows on Saturdays at 1:00 PM, with "Three Courses for Lafer" followed by "The Snack Menu."
  2. The afternoon program "Three Courses for Lafer" and "The Snack Menu" with Johann Lafer and Alexander Kumptner had lower viewership than expected, leading to their removal from Sat.1's afternoon slot.
  3. Instead of the cooking shows, Sat.1 will air more episodes of "On Patrol" from July 15, Monday to Friday, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, to boost viewer numbers.
  4. After the afternoon cooking shows were cut, Johan Lafer and Alexander Kumptner's shows will continue to air five new episodes each on Saturdays at 1:00 PM on the streaming service Joyn.
  5. Alexander Kumptner, a part of the cooking show duo, achieved an average of 4.4% in the target group, while Johan Lafer's show scored 3.4%, falling short of Sat.1's expectations.
