It's about to get real, folks! Fresh episodes of "Tatort" and "Polizeiruf 110" are dropping on ARD. Kickstarting the post-summer crime thunder with a bang is a Vienna-set "Tatort" titled "Deine Mutter" (September 15, 8:15 PM).

Before we dove into the summer vibes, which commenced on May 20 (Pentecost Monday), following the ARD broadcast of a Black Forest "Tatort", we had already aired 17 "Tatort" and 5 "Polizeiruf 110" crime dramas on the first channel. Yes, you heard it right! Even the second drift of the Halle team Koitzsch and Lehmann (Peter Kurth and Peter Schneider), which started in 2021, made the cut.

As we close the curtains on this year, 15 "Tatorts" and 2 "Polizeirufe" will still see the light of day. The exact order of these broadcasts might take some time to finalize, as programming planning usually happens with around a six-week lead time.

Vienna/ORF:

Three Austrian "Tatorts"? Two? It's a rollercoaster! In 2024, we'll be blessed with two. The second installment (September 15) makes headlines with an up-and-coming Vienna rapper's untimely demise - a whodunit with plenty of suspects. The title of this hip-hop "Tatort": "Deine Mutter" (the working title was "Hurenkind").

Black Forest/SWR:

In "Ad acta" (September 22), Tobler and Berg (Eva Löbau and Hans-Jochen Wagner) start wondering why the stepfather and boss of a murdered lawyer is dragging his feet to assist in the investigation.

The swansong of the Janneke/Brix team

Frankfurt am Main/HR:

Matthias Brandt puts on the psychologist hat for the last (and 19th) case of the team Janneke/Brix (Margarita Broich and Wolfram Koch) on September 29. The Frankfurt mainland is in full bloom, but don't let the greenery fool you! HR promises a jaw-dropping finale.

Wiesbaden/HR:

The 13th case of LKA investigator Felix Murot (Ulrich Tukur) takes us back in time to the 1940s. The hunt for a wanted war criminal awaits us in this installment. Of course, things aren't as straightforward as they seem with a title like "Murot and the 1000-year-old Reich" (scheduled for October 20, according to HR).

Franconia/BR:

Actress Dagmar Manzel is signing off the TV screen with the character Paula Ringelhahn's tenth case since 2015. With the suicide of a young inmate, a sequence of tragic events unfolds in Nuremberg, concluding Paula's arc.

Ludwigshafen/SWR:

"Dein gutes Recht" is Ulrike Folkerts' 80th appearance as Lena Odenthal (in 35 years). In this case, a dismissed call center employee becomes a prime suspect in a murder investigation.

Stuttgart/SWR:

According to SWR, Lannert and Bootz (Richy Müller and Felix Klare) will be dealing with the death of a woman who left her small-town life behind for the city glam in "Lass sie gehen." Is it her own fault?

Munich/BR:

In "Münsters Mordfall 96," detectives Batic and Leitmayr (Miroslav Nemec and Udo Wachtveitl) investigate a murder linked to a NATO military exercise. With countless soldiers, extras, and equipment involved, the case is far from straightforward.

Kiel/NDR:

In "Borowski und das ewige Meer," Klaus Borowski and assistant Mila Sahin (Almila Bagriacik) tackle a series of eerie suicides by young women on the beach in Kiel. This ominous 42nd case marks a penultimate showcase for Axel Milberg.

Prominent departure in the Münster "Tatort"

Münster/WDR:

The beloved team faces a sobering goodbye in this year's second "Tatort" episode, with the tragic murder of a lawyer, whose corpse is speared by a warrior sculpture's ancient spear. The case sends waves throughout the city, and our classic duo - Commissioner Thiel (Axel Prahl) and Professor Boerne (Jan Josef Liefers) - is determined to uncover the truth behind it all.

It's the penultimate case with Mechthild Großmann as Public Prosecutor Wilhelmine Klemm. The actress with the distinctive voice recently announced that she was leaving after the two films in 2025.

Dortmund/WDR:

Springing into action are Faber and Herzog (Jörg Hartmann and Stefanie Reinsperger) in a chilling case entitled "Made in China." A blood-drenched woman enters an Asian shop, claiming to have committed a murder but also insisting that she can't remember any details.

Cologne/WDR:

Ballauf and Schenk (Klaus J. Behrendt and Dietmar Bär) take center stage in the grim scene of a corpse outside an erotic center. The investigation leads them to the notorious seventh floor, housing a hair salon, a nail parlor, and rooms for non-traditional services.

Hamburg/NDR:

In "Whispering Hush," character named Falke (Wotan Wilke Möhring) embarks on a retreat at a secluded cloister. On his final night, shared with his lodging companion, a blaze erupts. The priest, Otto, perishes. Was it an act of homicide?

Swiss broadcasting station SRF is expected to introduce its second crime drama of the year, titled "Ferryman," featuring Grandjean and Ott (Anna Pieri Zuercher and Carol Schuler). The story unfolds during the pre-Christmas period and revolves around a serial killer with a penchant for the banking sector.

Radio Bremen's crime drama, entitled "Quiet Night," sees Moormann and Selb (Jasna Fritzi Bauer and Luise Wolfram) working over the holidays. The corpse of a captain is discovered in his quarters. He and his partner had extended hospitality to a Filipino sailor, with a suspected burglary gone awry.

The "Tatort" squads from Saarbrücken, Berlin, and Dresden will not be featured in 2024's ARD lineup, with planned returns scheduled for 2025. NDR investigator Charlotte Lindholm (Maria Furtwängler), previously relocated from Hannover to Göttingen due to teamwork issues and now apparently authorized to return to Hannover, also joins this list.

Police drama series "Polizeiruf" from NDR also confirms two teams will continue in 2024. The Rostock duo, Böwe and König (Lina Beckmann and Anneke Kim Sarnau), has secured their spots, as has the "Polizeiruf" unit from MDR, including Doreen Brasch played by Claudia Michelsen in Magdeburg.

Under crime veteran Dominik Graf's guidance, the third episode for Cris Blohm (Johanna Wokalek) and Dennis Eden (Stephan Zinner) is set to debut. In "Beyond the Law," the narrative revolves around the murder of an amateur adult film actor and legal hurdles.

The crime drama "Waterways," produced by Brandenburg RBB, presents the discovery of a Polish student deceased in a canoe on a canal. Detectives Vincent Ross (André Kaczmarczyk) and Karl Rogov (Frank Leo Schröder) launch an investigation, following the old waterway that the victim was studying.

After a thrilling summer filled with crime dramas, the post-summer season continues with a chilling 'Sunday crime'. On September 15, ARD will air a 'Tatort' titled "Deine Mutter", marking the second Viennese installment this year.

Despite closing the curtains on 2024, ARD still has 15 'Tatorts' and 2 'Polizeiruf' episodes scheduled for release, some titles yet to be finalized.
