Music personnel - Concert director of the Salzburg Festival moves to Munich
Florian Wiegand, Concert Manager of the Salzburg Festspiele, will be the Intendant of the Munich Philharmoniker. With Wiegand, the orchestra will have an Intendant who can skillfully handle the range between the home audience and the international media and touring business, said Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD), after the city council approved the personnel matter. The 50-year-old will begin his new position in September 2025, and then the designated Chief Conductor Lahav Shani will follow a year later.

Now to shape the future of this wonderful orchestra fills me with inspiration and humility," he said about his future task. He plans to be present in Munich again and again in the fall.
Born in Munich, Wiegand studied Cultural Management. He has been Concert Manager in Salzburg since 2012 and has a teaching position at the University of Zurich. For the intendancy in Munich, he had successfully gone through a multi-stage selection process.
