Comeback in the Bahamas: Tiger Woods is back
Tiger Woods has survived the first round of his much-publicized comeback in the Bahamas. The golf superstar from the USA started his own tournament with a round of 75 on the par-72 course at the Albany Golf Club. It was a start with light and shade for the 47-year-old.
The tournament on the Caribbean island is Woods' first competition since retiring from the Masters in Augusta in April due to injury and the subsequent operation on his right foot.
"I'm a bit knackered now," Woods admitted after round one. The 15-time major winner started at 11.52 a.m. local time (5.52 p.m. GMT) wearing a light pink shirt and black trousers. His first tee shot landed safely on the fairway after just under 300 meters. His right ankle no longer seemed to be causing him any problems. The swing of the long-time world number one seemed almost consistently round and controlled throughout the entire 18 holes. From the 15th hole onwards, however, Woods slowed down a little and missed too many shots towards the end.
Woods had already chosen his own event near Nassau in 2016 and 2017 as a gentle re-entry into the tough professional game after his numerous injuries. 20 top golfers from the PGA Tour are taking part in Tiger Woods' four-day invitational tournament in the vacation paradise.
Tiger Woods demonstrated his resilience in golf during his comeback game in the Bahamas, registering a round of 75. Despite a slight dip in performance from the 15th hole, the 15-time major winner showcased an impressive swing, indicating that Tiger Woods is back in action on the greens.
