Coach Edin Terzić departs from Borussia Dortmund straightaway.

Borussia Dortmund, who recently competed in the Champions League finals, is unexpectedly in need of a new coach. Edin Terzic has requested to have his contract terminated, and the club has agreed. The Bundesliga team is currently without a coach less than a week after the end of the season.

Edin Terzic is no longer the coach of Borussia Dortmund. Terzic requested termination of his contract, and this request has been approved by the club. Prior to this, the board members of the club, Hans-Joachim Watzke, Sebastian Kehl, and Lars Ricken, held a meeting at the training center in Brackel.

Although Terzic led the Black and Yellows to victory in the Champions League last season, losing only to Real Madrid (0:2) in the final, the league season left much to be desired. Finishing fifth was a significant letdown. It is still unclear who will replace Terzic as coach. Bild newspaper suggests that co-trainer Nuri Sahin may be promoted.

In a personal statement on the Borussia Dortmund website, Terzic expressed his thoughts as follows: "Dear Borussians, although it hurts me now, I must tell you that I will leave BVB with immediate effect. It was a great honor to lead this fantastic team to a DFB Cup win and most recently to a Champions League final. I requested a conversation with the club management after our game in Wembley because I felt that a new coach was needed for the upcoming restart."

Anyone who knows Terzic is aware that during these past few weeks, two feelings have been battling within his heart. Despite intense discussions, his basic sentiment did not change. Terzic concluded by wishing BVB the best, saying not goodbye but until we meet again. Heja BVB!

Tensions between Hummels and Terzic

Terzic was criticized throughout the season for the team's poor performances in multiple games, their struggles against relegation candidates, and their losses to teams on the same level. Hummels' protection from Boss Hans-Joachim Watzke ended on May 1st when Lars Ricken took over some of Terzic's responsibilities.

Before the King's Cup final, Terzic was surprisingly harshly criticized by defender Mats Hummels. After disappointing losses in the league against VfB Stuttgart and in the DFB Cup, Terzic was described as "stocksauer" by Hummels. He shared these sentiments with Sport Bild: "Borussia Dortmund should not even appear - against any opponent in the world."

The central defender continued to express his frustration: "I felt it couldn't continue like this. I felt disgraced wearing this jersey. So humiliated, so footballingly inferior. The two Stuttgart games and the away game in Leverkusen were a nightmare with 11 men on the field." As a leadership player, he had offered plenty of suggestions on how to improve the situation, and he had even communicated with the coaching staff. "It will be much better," according to Mats Hummels, as Terzic hired Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender as co-trainers during the winter break.

Rumors have circulated all week that Hummels, whose contract ends this month, might make his stay with Dortmund contingent on Terzic's departure, as reported by Sky. The possibility of a contract extension was only viable under these conditions.

Following his departure from Borussia Dortmund, Edin Terzic's coaching dismissal in the Soccer Bundesliga has left a vacancy at the club, just weeks after their Champions League final appearance. Terzic's exit from the German side comes after a disappointing league finish and critical comments from defender Mats Hummels, leading to speculation about potential replacements, with co-trainer Nuri Sahin being suggested by the Bild newspaper.
