Club legend Şahin is now BVB's head coach.
Nuri Sahin is now the new boss of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. He signed a three-year deal, making him the youngest head coach in the league’s history. At 35, this is Sahin's second time holding a head coach position, following his time at the Turkish First League team Antalyaspor. Borussia Dortmund and Edin Terzic went their separate ways on Thursday.
"It's a huge honor for me to coach Borussia Dortmund," said Sahin. Lars Ricken, the Borussians' Sport Business Manager, stated that Sahin has been preparing for a career in coaching for a few years and will take on his new job with complete dedication, further enhancing the team.
Over the course of his career, Sahin played in 274 official matches as a player for Borussia Dortmund, scoring 26 goals. He was part of the team that won the championship in 2011, the DFB Pokal in 2017, and reached the Champions League final in 2013 against Bayern Munich at Wembley (1:2). For the upcoming Bundesliga season, Sahin will be the second-youngest coach if Fabian Hürzeler (31) of FC St. Pauli doesn't leave his club due to offers.
Meanwhile, Hummels, Sahin's former teammate at Dortmund, is leaving the team. The 35-year-old defensive leader will not receive a new contract. The decision was made during a conversation between Ricken and Kehl, the team's Sport Director, with Hummels earlier this week. The club made the announcement recently.
