after Wimbledon loss - Clever Djokovic sets Olympics as next goal

After the clear loss in the Wimbledon Finale, Serbian record-Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic sets his sights on the Olympics in Paris and the US Open. "I still intend to participate in the Olympics and hopefully fight for a medal for my country," said the 37-year-old after losing 2:6, 2:6, 6:7 (4:7) to Carlos Alcaraz.

"We'll see how I feel physically and mentally," said Djokovic. He hopes to show his best tennis at these two tournaments. To beat Alcaraz (21) or Italian World No. 1 Jannik Sinner (22) in key matches, he must "play much better" than in the Wimbledon Final.

Djokovic still without a tournament win in 2024

The Olympic Games in Paris begin on July 26. The Olympic tennis competition at Stade Roland Garros on clay starts a day after the opening ceremony. The Olympic Gold medal is still missing from Djokovic's collection. So far, he has only won the Bronze medal in 2008. The US Open in New York is the last Grand Slam tournament of the season, which begins at the end of August. In this season, Djokovic is still waiting for his first tournament win.

He will still continue, said Djokovic. He sets no limits for his career: "I want to keep going and play as long as I feel I can play at this high level."

In his tenth Wimbledon Final, Djokovic had previously missed his eighth triumph at the Wimbledon Championship in London. In the final against Alcaraz, the World No. 2 was clearly outplayed in the first two sets and failed to write tennis history by winning the 25th title at a Grand Slam tournament, surpassing Margaret Court. The Australian had won 24 Grand Slam titles. Djokovic had only entered Wimbledon a few weeks after a knee surgery.

  1. Despite the setback at the Wimbledon Final in London, Djokovic plans to represent Serbia in the Tennis events at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
  2. The United Kingdom will host some intense Tennis matches at Wimbledon, while Olympia, Germany, will witness the Olympic tennis competition during the Olympics in Paris.
  3. Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis legend, is aiming to add an Olympic Gold medal to his impressive list of achievements, which currently includes a Bronze medal from the 2008 Olympic Games.
  4. Analysts suggest that Djokovic needs to improve significantly to outperform both Alcaraz and Sinner in key matches, given his disappointing performance in the US Open and Wimbledon finals.
  5. Following a disappointing season with no tournament wins, Djokovic confirmed his determination to compete in the US Open, which serves as the final Grand Slam tournament of the season, beginning late August.
  6. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has scheduled the tennis events for the Olympic Games to start a day after the opening ceremony, while the US Open tournament will kick off at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
  7. As Djokovic prepares for the upcoming tournaments, tennis fans worldwide eagerly wait for the endgame of his illustrious career, hoping to see more unforgettable moments from the Serbian tennis maestro.
