Clemens surprisingly swims to silver in the Seine

Swimmer Oliver Klemet surprisingly wins silver medal in open water swimming at the Olympics. The 2023 World Championship bronze medalist outshone Tokyo Olympics champion and favorite Florian Wellbrock, finishing only behind Hungary's Kristof Rasovszky.

Oliver Klemet, 22, surprisingly won the Olympic silver medal in men's 10km open water swimming. He had to settle for second place behind Hungary's Kristof Rasovszky. Hungary's David Betlehem took bronze. For Klemet, who won bronze at last year's World Championships in Fukuoka, this was the biggest achievement of his career so far.

He secured the third swimming medal for the German Swimming Federation at the Games. In the pool, Lukas Martens won gold in the 400m freestyle, while Isabel Gose took bronze in the 1500m. Florian Wellbrock, who won gold in Tokyo in 2021, finished eighth this time, missing out on a medal after two tough defeats in the pool.

Oliver's stunning performance at the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris might see him challenge for gold, building upon his silver medal in Paris 2024. The German Swimming Federation is hoping to continue its success from the 2024 Games, where they clinched silver in the open water swimming event.
