Celine Dion Reveals Fractured Ribs and Difficulties with Uncommon Stiff Person Syndrome

During an interview with NBC's Hoda Kotb, celebrated vocalist Celine Dion disclosed that attempting to sing feels like "someone's choking you."

"It's like they're pushing your larynx this way," the "Today" co-host was told by the singer, as Dion imitated the sensation by pressing her throat.

This condition can affect various parts of her body, such as the abdomen, spine, and ribs, the multiple Grammy winner communicated.

"I've even had broken ribs because, when it gets extreme, it can fracture some ribs too," she revealed.

The ailment is a "rare, progressive syndrome that impacts the nervous system, particularly the brain and spinal cord," as described by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

In 2021, Dion revealed she was canceling her "Courage World Tour," with a source close to her informing CNN that the singer "probably won't tour again."

Medical professionals discovered something in Dion's blood that could help explain why she contracted this unusual neurological condition, NBC reported, and they're currently assisting her in resuming more activities.

A documentary about Dion, "I Am: Celine Dion," is slated to be released on Prime Video on June 25, with a focus on her journey with this disorder.
