The statement implies that a change is about to occur. - Celine Dion discusses her health condition.

In 2022, iconic singer Celine Dion (56) revealed her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease that causes muscle stiffness and spasms. The diagnosis forced her to cancel her "Courage" world tour, and she remained out of the public eye for a while. Recently, she opened up about her experience in an interview with a US broadcaster, ET online.

For Dion, the most concerning aspect of the disease is how it impacts her vocal cords, her "instrument," as she puts it: "It's like someone is drowning you! It's like someone is pressing on your throat in this way," she said, demonstrating by placing her hands around her neck.

Since her sister Claudette Dion (75) confirmed in December that the singer has no control over her muscles, Celine has consulted top researchers in her field. Unfortunately, they have yet to find any medications that work for her.

One of the many challenges Celine faces is her inability to continue her passion for cooking. Her fingers and hands can freeze in a position, and she can't release them, making cooking impossible. The syndrome can also cause severe spasms in other parts of the body, such as the abdomen, spine, or ribs. Dion mentions that she once had broken ribs due to these spasms.

Despite these challenges, Celine is determined to return to the stage. She announced on her Instagram in March 2024 that she would eventually perform again and live as normally as possible. Her story will be featured in the documentary "I Am: Celine Dion," set to be available on Amazon Prime Video from June 25. "It's not hard to make a show. It's hard to cancel one," she says in a trailer for the documentary. "If I can't walk, I'll crawl. But I won't give up!"
