- Cabaret performer Richard Rogler is dead.
Comedian Richard Rogler has passed away. His family announced on Tuesday that he died on Sunday. Rogler was considered one of the pioneers of political cabaret in Germany, hosting the TV series "Mitternachtsspitzen" and being part of the "Scheibenwischer" ensemble. The award-winning performer was 74 years old.
Born in Upper Franconia, Rogler began his career in 1974 with children's theater and later performed with Heinrich Pachl as the duo "Der wahre Anton". Since 1986, he has been performing solo shows.
For decades, he reached large audiences across Germany with numerous successful programs, winning the German Cabaret Award multiple times, until he retired from touring in 2018.
In a tribute, his family described him as having "uniquely combined boundless energy, acting prowess, sacred anger, and deep love for his characters, blending theater, cabaret, grand world theater, and intimate performances, political relevance, and human abysses into a completely new form."
