The "Crafty One" is now playing for Borussia Dortmund: Pascal Groß switches to the football Bundesliga club after long negotiations. For the 33-year-old, his transfer back to Germany as a BVB fan is a "huge deal".

Borussia Dortmund has completed the expected signing of German football national player Pascal Groß. The 33-year-old midfielder has signed a two-year contract until 2026 and will immediately travel with the team to the training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland.

"With his composure on the ball, his outstanding passing and positioning play, and his versatility, he adds new dimensions to our team," said sporting director Sebastian Kehl, adding: "Pascal is also a crafty one and radiates direct and indirect goal threat in many areas. We are convinced that he will enrich our game and strengthen us with his winning mentality and personality."

For Groß, it's a return to the Bundesliga after seven years in England, where he previously played for FC Ingolstadt. He made his Bundesliga debut in 2009 for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

"Dortmund fan since I was a little boy"

The Dortmunders are reported to have paid around seven million euros to Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion, with a further three million in bonuses possible. In the city by the English Channel, Groß has been playing very convincingly since 2017 and has also earned himself a place in the national team, where he became a late starter. His debut came in September 2023 in the 1:4 defeat against Japan, the last game under coach Hansi Flick.

"Pascal has developed into an absolute key player in recent years. He will make us more stable and flexible, help us with his experience, and have a very positive influence as a leader," said managing director Lars Ricken. Groß is versatile and thus a valuable alternative or addition to Emre Can, Marcel Sabitzer, Salih Özcan, or Felix Nmecha. The Dortmunders had previously reinforced with central defender Waldemar Anton and top striker Serhou Guirassy, both coming from VfB Stuttgart. "For me, this transfer is simply a huge deal, because I've been a Dortmund fan since I was a little boy," said Groß.

The football league where Pascal Groß will now compete is the Football Bundesliga, as he has joined Borussia Dortmund. With his fascination for Dortmund beginning in his childhood, this transfer is an significant accomplishment for the midfielder.
