BVB averts debacle in 15 fast-paced minutes

After 28 minutes, Borussia Dortmund is 2-0 down at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Resentment spreads in the stands. But before the mood threatens to tip over, the black-and-yellow footballers hit back with a rapid sprint.

Edin Terzić took a deep breath, Mats Hummels hugged his little son Ludwig with relief. Borussia Dortmund prevented the next setback in the Bundesliga with great willpower and morale. After trailing 2-0 and facing the threat of a debacle, BVB launched a spectacular comeback against Borussia Mönchengladbach and rewarded themselves with a 4:2 (3:2) win. Joker Donyell Malen's last-minute goal into an empty net in front of the South Stand (90.+7) was tantamount to redemption and the delighted fans showered in beer.

"That was a great step," said goalkeeper Gregor Kobel on Sky, "it's good and gives you confidence when you can fight back like that. We have to take this momentum with us." Marcel Sabitzer (30'), international Niclas Füllkrug (32'), Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (45') and Malen fired BVB to their eleventh home win in a row against Gladbach, ensuring a successful start to the Weeks of Truth. The Champions League game at AC Milan awaits on Tuesday, while leaders Bayer Leverkusen await on Sunday.

"You always look forward to the great games"

"You always look forward to the good games," said captain Emre Can, "we play against good teams, have to step on the gas, work hard and try to win." However, this will require an improvement in performance. Dortmund's defense showed questionable weaknesses, and not just when Rocco Reitz (13) and Manu Kone (28) conceded goals.

But morale is intact. For the first time since January 2022, BVB overturned a two-goal deficit - only FC Augsburg have scored more points in the league after trailing 12-11 - and the hosts had to make do without Karim Adeyemi and Sebastien Haller at short notice, with captain Emre Can returning to the starting eleven after his injury layoff. Terzic called for his players to take on more responsibility shortly before kick-off after a run of three league games without a win.

In front of 81,365 spectators, that did not work for half an hour. Vulnerable at the back, lacking in ideas up front - the runners-up did not get into the game at all. When Reitz scored after a beautiful pass from Alassane Plea, the back four stood far too high. Kone calmly curved through the Dortmund penalty area as he scored. As the first whistles could be heard at Signal Iduna Park, BVB came back into the game thanks to Gladbach's shooting assistance. Kone lost the ball in the Dortmund penalty area. Sabitzer, who had also scored for Austria in the international match against Germany (2:0), successfully finished off the resulting counter-attack. His shot was deflected unstoppably by Joe Scally.

Bynoe-Gittens makes the difference

The hosts then seized the moment. Füllkrug scored a technically strong equalizer after a pass from Bynoe-Gittens. The international then returned the favor and set up the striking Bynoe-Gittens' goal. Once again, it was Kone who had carelessly lost the ball in front of his own penalty area.

With the lead behind them, the Black & Yellows initially dominated the second half. Füllkrug failed to beat Moritz Nicolas with a header (52'). The Gladbach goalkeeper was also on his guard against Bynoe-Gittens (54'). Nicolas had no chance when Marco Reus' free-kick hit the crossbar (55'). BVB were looking for a decision, but Gladbach stabilized after an hour when they switched to a back four. However, the visitors were no longer active in attack - until Christoph Kramer finally got a shot on target. His shot (90.+5) fizzed over. Malen scored into an empty net.

Edin Terzic's strategy paid off as Borussia Dortmund overcame a 2-0 deficit against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Soccer Bundesliga, with Donyell Malen securing a last-minute win for Borussia Dortmund, continuing their impressive form against Borussia Mönchengladbach in Soccer Bundesliga.

Following their comeback victory, Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic praised his team's resilience, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their momentum heading into their upcoming Champions League game against AC Milan and their Bundesliga match against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
