Bundesliga record-holder Vogt concludes the long-standing series

In the annals of the Bundesliga, no defender had to endure such a lengthy call to action for their next score: After nearly a decade, Kevin Vogt netted once more. His target was Borussia Dortmund, with the decisive 1:0 coming from a penalty kick.

Vogt, now a seasoned pro with Union Berlin, hadn't found the back of the net in the Bundesliga for almost ten years prior to this remarkable feat. His last goal, an accomplishment against BVB, saw the light of day on October 18, 2014. Set up in Köln, Vogt and BVB endured 275 consecutive goalless encounters before this game-changing moment.

The least fortunate streak among Bundesliga scorers during the 21st century belonged to Vogt on April 12, when United Berlin suffered a 0:2 defeat in Augsburg. His goalless streak, stretching to 267 games, surpassed Dietmar Schwager's record, set between 1964 and 1973, which previously held as the league's longest drought without a goal.

Upon joining Union from competitors 1899 Hoffenheim in January, Vogt replaced Bonucci, an Italian European champion. With Bonucci's unexpected stint at Union lasting just six months, the Italian international made a mere seven appearances and scored only one goal in the Bundesliga. Bonucci also donned the Union jersey for three matches in the Champions League.

Reportedly, Union Berlin paid around 1.5 million euros for Vogt's services. "Kevin is a player who exudes bravery, is a leader, and will benefit the team with his mentality and determination," declared sports director Oliver Ruhnert then. "He's highly familiar with the Bundesliga and is ready to embark on this journey alongside us at present."

Vogt has ventured to six different Bundesliga clubs during his storied career, his latest goal representing a first in quite some time. In all, he notched four goals within the Bundesliga.

Intriguingly, Vogt's prolonged goalless spell was not the solitary peculiarity surrounding him in the Bundesliga. The defender is one of only six players in league history to represent two separate teams on a single matchday. During the 13th matchday of the previous season, Vogt played for Hoffenheim against Gladbach and for Union against Bayern. Due to rescheduling, Union's trip to Munich was pushed back and ultimately played after the winter break.

After joining Union Berlin from 1899 Hoffenheim, Kevin Vogt aimed to improve his goal-scoring record in the Bundesliga league. Despite his impressive career spanning six different clubs, his Dry spell in scoring a goal for Union Berlin reached an unprecedented 267 games, exceeding Dietmar Schwager's record, making the Bundesliga Football league's longest drought without a goal.
