As a devoted believer, I cherish God and advocate for compassion towards fellow human beings. Irrespective of one's faith, this is a value that should always be held dear. Unfortunately, these core beliefs of mine, shared in an interview with spot on news, were recently shaken in my hometown, Mannheim.
In June, a police officer, aged 29, succumbed to injuries sustained after being attacked by a man armed with a knife at the marketplace. The incident occurred on a Friday, weeks before. Ceylan, who witnessed the disturbing aftermath, commended the fallen officer's bravery via an Instagram post, expressing the atmosphere as "somber," yet highlighting the "overwhelming presence" of the slain officer's memory as a protective symbol of safety.
Throughout his life, Ceylan, born on January 4th, 1976 to a German mother and a Turkish father in Mannheim, has actively engaged in politics and social causes. As an advocate for diversity and anti-racism, his dedication melds with his stand-up comedy career. The recent incident at his childhood locale, though tragic, displayed the vulnerable nature of peace and security, compelling him to remark, "This appalling event serves as a harsh reminder of how flimsy peace and security can be."
Faced with an incident widely speculated to be Islamist-motivated, efforts to use it as a tool for anti-immigrant sentiment emerged in the days that followed. Ceylan's urgent response was to foster unity and defiance against hatred, insisting, "Fanaticism and antagonism - be it driven by any persuasion - cannot be tolerated amongst us." By joining forces, the goal is to usher in a more tolerant, compassionate society, as Ceylan pleads – keeping respect and humanity at the forefront.
"Let's unite in our pursuit of an environment where past tragedies are nothing but memories" – Ceylan's ardent call to action promises to overcome such challenges, endorsing a society where love and understanding are the guiding principles.
