Buchmann and Bora-Hansgrohe focus on the essential details.
No top-tier German cyclist has achieved as much success in the world's biggest cycling event in recent years as Emanuel Buchmann. Yet, he cannot rest on his laurels. This is also because he's barred from participating in the major tours this season. This has left him feeling quite discouraged.
In the wake of a conflict between cyclist Emanuel Buchmann and his team Bora-hansgrohe, the illustrious German squad wishes to bring their final season together in a refined and professional manner. "Emanuel has informed the team that he no longer wants to pedal for us," remarked team manager Ralph Denk during a press conference. "We'll ensure a smooth transition for the rest of the season," Denk further stated, elaborating on next steps.
Buchmann, who only has a deal with Bora-hansgrohe for this year, expressed his discontent emotionally and without prior consultation with his team regarding his snub from the recently concluded Giro d'Italia. He asserted that he'd been promised a co-leader role, which the team vehemently denied.
Denk revealed that the disagreement had left "some scars." He anticipates that the season will progress hassle-free in spite of this. "Emu is likely exploring other avenues, and we'll assist him in this endeavor," said Denk while commending Buchmann's accomplishments. The 31-year-old took fourth place in the 2019 Tour de France.
For the first time, the team will kick off under the new primary sponsor Red Bull at the Tour, set to begin in under a month. Then, Slovenian star Primoz Roglic will represent the team's quest for the overall title. Over the weekend, Colombian Daniel Felipe Martinez secured second place at the Giro, thus fulfilling the squad's main ambition. However, the elite team lacked a stage triumph during the Italian tournament.
