Golf - British-Open-Start: Debate for Golf-Stars Woods and McIlroy

Golf superstar Tiger Woods and world number two Rory McIlroy experienced a disaster at the start of the 152nd British Open. The 48-year-old American Woods needed 79 strokes for the first round on the Par-71 course of the Royal Troon Golf Club and is ranked tied 138th after day one. The 35-year-old Northern Irishman McIlroy also needs to improve after a weak 78-stroke round and a ranking of 129 to qualify for the decisive rounds at the weekend.

Leader is Daniel Brown. The 29-year-old Englishman needs only 65 strokes at his British Open debut on the Scottish west coast. The number one in the world, Scottie Scheffler from the USA, is with 70 strokes and a ranking of 11 in contention.

No German player in the Top 30

Experienced player Marcel Siem (44) from Ratingen and the defending senior British Open champion Alex Cejka (53) are both with 73 strokes on place 42. One more stroke was needed by Munich's Stephan Jaeger on place 69. A poor start was made by the 30-year-old Mannheimer Yannik Paul with 77 strokes and a ranking of 120.

McIlroy came into the British Open with high ambitions. His last Major title was won by him in 2014 at the British Open in Liverpool. "It was one of those days where I just couldn't adapt to the conditions well enough", McIlroy said after his frustrating round. The Northern Irishman started early in the morning with heavy rain and wind, while Woods had better external conditions in the afternoon but couldn't take advantage of them.

Rory McIlroy's disappointing performance at the British Open is not unique to this year's event. He earlier faced challenges during the 2014 British Open held in Liverpool, where he managed to secure his last Major title.

The PGA-Tour and DP World Tour have several international golf tournaments, but the British Open is a notable exception that attracts stars like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Besides McIlroy and Woods, other renowned golfers participating in the British Open include Daniel Brown, the leader with a score of 65, and Scottie Scheffler, ranking 11th with 70 strokes.

The British Open, held at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland, is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, attracting golf enthusiasts and players from all around, including Britain's own Debkel.

Even after a challenging start during the first day of the British Open, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy continue to exhibit resilience, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the sport, especially on the PGA-Tour and DP World Tour.
