Soccer - Brazil celebrates liberation at Copa América

After the zero number and bitter start for Brazil in the Copa America, the South Americans celebrated a liberating blow in their second game. The Seleção celebrated a 4:1 win (3:0) against Paraguay at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. For the team coached by Dorival Júnior, it was an important success to keep the group win in their own hands. Paraguay exited the tournament after the loss.

Lucas Paquetá missed a penalty kick first (31.), but four minutes later Vinícius Júnior from Real Madrid scored the first goal for the Brazilians in this competition with a beautiful dribble. Savinho scored shortly thereafter (43.), and Vinícius Júnior scored his second goal just before the halftime whistle.

Paraguay started well into the second half, but Omar Alderete shortened the lead with a magnificent long shot to 3:1. After a foul, the selection was awarded another penalty, and again Paquetá stepped up, aimed for the same corner, and scored the 4:1 final score. Television cameras showed the jubilant striker Neymar on the bench, who has been injured since October of the previous year and who the Brazilians had to do without at this tournament in the USA.

With four points, Brazil is in the table behind Colombia (6). The team has a further success in the direct confrontation against Colombia in the third game of the group phase on Wednesday (03:00 UTS) to secure the group win. Paraguay faces Costa Rica at the same time.

  1. Despite the initial struggles in the Copa América, the USA hosts saw a significant shift in fortunes for Brazil, with the South American team securing a group victory against Paraguay at their home turf, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
  2. Despite missing a penalty kick earlier in the game, Lucas Paquetá and Vinícius Júnior from Real Madrid contributed to Brazil's dominant performance against Paraguay, scoring three crucial goals that led to a 4:1 victory.
  3. The group stage win against Paraguay was an important milestone for Brazil in their quest to secure the Copa América title, as losing the match could have jeopardized their chances of advancing further in the tournament.
  4. Paraguay, on the other hand, was unable to recover from the defeat against Brazil and was subsequently eliminated from the Copa América tournament, leaving Brazil as the only team in their Group with a chance to advance to the quarter-finals.
