- Boxer Tiafack misses Olympic final and takes bronze

Boxer Nelvie Tiafack misses out on the Olympic final in the super heavyweight category and has to settle for the bronze medal. The 25-year-old from Cologne lost his semifinal bout against Tokyo Olympic champion Bakhodir Jalolov from Uzbekistan unanimously on points. Tiafack had already secured the bronze before the first bell rang at the Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris, as the semifinal losers share the third place at the Olympics.

This is the first Olympic medal for the German Boxing Association in the super heavyweight category and the first medal since 2016, when Artem Harutyunyan won bronze in the lightweight category in Rio de Janeiro. Chemnitz's Maxi Klotzer and Munich's Magomed Schachidov had already been eliminated in the first round.

For Tiafack, this might have been his last amateur fight, as the 2022 European champion plans to turn professional. If he had won the Olympics, the marketing opportunities for the 1.89-meter tall athlete, weighing around 110 kilograms, would have been significantly greater.

Despite missing out on the Olympic final, Nelvie Tiafack still made history by earning a bronze medal in The Olympic Games, marking the first time the German Boxing Association has won a medal in the super heavyweight category since 2016.

Regarding his future, Tiafack might consider turning professional after The Olympic Games, as the marketing opportunities for a bronze medalist in The Olympic Games are substantial, but they would be much greater if he had won the gold.
