Borussia Dortmund inadvertently evades the disgraceful reprimand

In the initial phase of the match, Borussia Dortmund faced an early setback against VfL Bochum, who were yet to secure a victory. This potential loss could have resulted in a humiliation for the BVB. However, they turned things around and managed to secure a goal-rich escape, ultimately clinching a win. Serhou Guirassy was instrumental in the comeback, leading Dortmund to a resilient victory after their poor performance in Stuttgart. The BVB managed to recover from a 2-0 deficit and emerged victorious against their determined neighbors, VfL Bochum, by a score of 4-2 (1-2). Guirassy scored twice and assisted in the equalizing penalty, helping the team dodge a crisis. Nevertheless, uncertainties regarding Dortmund's new direction persist.

Dortmund started off strongly but fell into a disorganized state for thirty minutes, barely saving themselves from a 0-4 deficit. The team was fortunate to only trail 2-0 at halftime, with Matus Bero (16.) and Dani de Wit (21.) netting the goals. Then Guirassy took charge, scoring the equalizer (44.), drawing a foul from Emre Can for the penalty that led to the 2-2 equalizer, and ultimately sealing the victory with a goal (75.). Felix Nmecha (81.) put the icing on the cake.

Questionable decision by Kobel

After suffering a disappointing 1-5 defeat in Stuttgart, new coach Sven Sahin learned from his mistakes. Despite necessities, he made only minor squad modifications, with Emre Can replacing the injured Marcel Sabitzer, Yan Couto making his debut at right back, and Jamie Gittens being included in the squad.

Pressure mounted on Bochum, who were still winless in six games under coach Peter Zeidler. Dortmund dominated the game, with Karim Adeyemi having the first major opportunity with a header (11.). Repeatedly, the BVB managed to gain access to the opposition half, only to be thwarted by the opponents' defenders. Julian Brandt's 18-meter shot was saved by Patrick Drewes.

Momentum shifted when Bochum initiated fast, direct attacks after winning back the ball. They succeeded with this tactic, as after a one-two with Philipp Hofmann, Matus Bero scored from the left with a precise shot, narrowly missing Gregor Kobel and the post. Dortmund made their situation even more precarious when Kobel lost possession due to an arm tackle by Myron Boadu, which resulted in Dani de Wit scoring an easy goal into an empty net.

Guirassy's stellar performance

Despite their struggles, Dortmund continued to push forward once more. Dani de Wit and Myron Boadu had more opportunities (24. and 33.), while Julian Brandt should have added to their tally but was denied by Guirassy. Meanwhile, Brandt had a chance to score (39.), but Guirassy intercepted and scored himself with a header, sparking an exciting back-and-forth.

With forty-five minutes remaining to avoid another setback, Dortmund fought valiantly. Bochum defended resiliently, giving their all in every duel and celebrating their victories like goalscoring moments. Former Dortmund player Felix Passlack fouled Guirassy, resulting in a penalty for Dortmund.

As expected, Dortmund took their foot off the pedal following their comeback. Bochum seized this opportunity and almost capitalized, with Moritz Broschinski coming close two minutes after entering the game (64.). However, Dortmund's offense proved unstoppable in the end.

VfL Bochum faced a tough challenge in their match against VfL Bochum, as they were yet to secure a victory in six games. Despite their struggles, Guirassy played a crucial role in turning the tide for Dortmund, scoring twice and assisting in the equalizing penalty.

Dortmund's new coach, Sven Sahin, made only minor changes to the squad for the match against VfL Bochum, with Emre Can replacing the injured Marcel Sabitzer and Yan Couto making his debut at right back.
