Fresh release of music - Bon Jovi marks their return with the track "Forever"
Jon Bon Jovi's newest documentary series captured his intensive rehabilitation process after a vocal cord surgery. Not only devoted followers had to endure the painful sight of him undergoing vocal exercises. Thankfully, this occurred two years ago and his voice is back. The proof lies in the recently released album by the renowned American rock band. This album not only marks their comeback, but also celebrates a significant anniversary.
Forty years ago, the musical group from New Jersey brought out their first album. Reflecting on four decades, Jon Bon Jovi (62) expressed a mix of pride and dread. His once-blond hair has now turned gray, the wrinkles a bit deeper. "I never imagined we'd still be touring after 40 years, not just with a nostalgic package of greatest hits. That's unbelievable," he said to the German Press Agency. Fortunately, only Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan (62), and drummer Tico Torres (70) remain from the original line-up. Musical projects tend to have a short lifespan, with most bands lasting only two or three years. "Back then, we didn't think about ageing. And now we suddenly find ourselves looking back," Torres shared.
Today, the three musicians enjoy a less hectic lifestyle. "We had so much fun, but it was also grueling. We moved so fast," Bryan recalled, still with his iconic mohawk. "It's nice that things are slower now, so we can enjoy it."
After enduring some challenging times, Bon Jovi is on the mend. "My health is my own decision," Bryan explained. "We stood behind Jon during his recovery. You have to take care of yourself, and we were there for him." After surgery, Jon Bon Jovi still isn't quite at 100%, but he's making progress. He's made brief appearances, stating, "I'm no longer ready for a tour with 50 or 100 shows, but I'm at about 90%." Given his age, the gradual loss of his high-pitched voice is understandable. The new album's songs showcase his improved vocals.
The first single "Legendary" is a bridge between past and present, featuring Bruce Springsteen's influence and referencing Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline." It immediately hit the top 10 of the American Rock Digital Song Sales. "We have a hit song," Bon Jovi confirmed with a smile. "It might not be the best track on the album, but the year will be good."
The LP showcases numerous catchy songs and positive vibes. "We Made It Look Easy" describes their journey, while "Living Proof" calls back to their earlier successes, both with a touch of nostalgia. The catchiest earworm might be the rock ballad "Waves." Finally, "Walls of Jericho" comes across as an over-the-top party anthem meant for audience participation.
The "Forever" album doesn't have the potential to reach the heights of previous classics like "Slippery When Wet" (1986), "Keep The Faith" (1992), or "Crush" (2000), but it's still a successful and entertaining rock album with a playful spirit. The band, with its original members and a few new faces, is back in full swing. "It's been a pleasure to look back and be happy about it," Jon Bon Jovi said. "Writing and recording this album was fun."
Alongside the founding trio, guitarist Phil X, bassist Hugh McDonald, percussionist Everett Bradley, and rhythm guitarist John Shanks make up the full line-up. Shanks, who has been leading the production on every Bon Jovi album for nearly 20 years, took on the same role this time.
"Kiss The Bride," an emotional ballad, symbolizes the family man's dedication to his wife Dorothea and their four children. He penned this personal song in anticipation of their daughter Stephanie's (31) wedding. While it borders on cheesy sentiments for this subject, it's also genuine and touching.
Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, and Tico Torres are three bandmates who've been together for so long that they're like a family. David Bryan, the keyboardist, says this with a nod, "We're like brothers. We support each other, are there for each other, and have patience with each other. That's 45 years of friendship and love."
The title of their latest album, "Forever," can be interpreted in different ways. It can mean "for eternity" or "since an eternity." Jon Bon Jovi asks, "That's who we really are, or?" He grins mischievously. His longtime friend David Bryan replies, "Yes, it feels like an eternity, and it will be forever."
