Bochum would have wished for a different outcome after Riemann's outburst.

Bochum faces Düsseldorf in a relegation play-off without their normal goalkeeper, Manuel Riemann. The sports director discusses Riemann's absence, citing "different perspectives" and a difficult decision.

Bochum's sports director, Patrick Fabian, offers additional insight on Riemann's exclusion from the squad prior to the first leg against Fortuna Düsseldorf. "We convened after the Bremen game, voiced criticism, and presented options. Manu and I had different outlooks," explained Fabian. "This choice was hardly simple."

On Monday, Bochum revealed that they would proceed into the relegation play-off without Riemann, following a 4-1 defeat against Werder Bremen on matchday 34 of the Bundesliga. "Manu's athletic contribution is beyond doubt," added Fabian. "I'm not delighted to be in this predicament. But we have to cope with it; it's all about Bochum now."

Luthe wishes Riemann had been included

Riemann's explosive outbursts on the field, sometimes directed at teammates, were among the reasons cited by Bochum for this move. The club cited "incompatible views on team-related matters" as the official cause.

Besides Riemann, who is likely to be replaced by Andreas Luthe, coach Heiko Butscher will also be without Erhan Masovic, who is ill and will not be able to participate in Thursday's match against the Rhineland's third-placed team in the second division(8.30 pm/Sat.1 and Sky and live ticker on ntv.de).

Bochum's relegation goalkeeper, Luthe, expressed his desire to have his usual keeper, Riemann, in the lineup for the clash with Fortuna Düsseldorf. "Manu is a vital component of our team. I believe we all concur that we wanted to see him in goal. And I believe we all see it that way," said Luthe following training on Tuesday.
