Blue Team's Attire Sparks Outrage Among Supporters
The European Championship for soccer kicks off with Italy scoring a historically controversial goal, followed by a chaotic performance that raises eyebrows for their coach. The champion team's game sparks debates about trivial matters as well.
Emporio Armani designed the Italian soccer team's uniform for the tournament, and it's meant to pay tribute to the famous team from 1928. However, numerous soccer fans disliked the outfits, especially a specific detail that drew harsh criticism on social media platforms following their 2:1 victory against Albania.
The back of the jacket, emblazoned with the word "Italia" in large capital letters, was widely criticized. One user of social media X described the jacket as "a fashion disaster from the horror gallery of Italian tailoring craft." Another commented, "I've never seen something uglier in my life than this Italia-inscribed jacket worn by National Coach Luciano Spalletti during the game in Dortmund."
"That jacket doesn't flatter anyone"
Beyond the color, material, and cut, many soccer fans were unimpressed. "That jacket doesn't flatter Spalletti, probably no one," was one such comment. Another user asked, "What kind of jacket did they dress Spalletti in? It looks more like a bathrobe."
Spalletti, on the other hand, had concerns about his team's complacency. He criticized them for being too comfortable and careless. "We love ourselves too much," he said, adding that they thought they were better than they actually were in some situations. The team struggled early on and nearly squandered their victory in the final moments.
With a draw against Albania, Italy would have found themselves in a difficult position in Group B alongside Nations League winner Spain and World Cup third place Croatia. Agitated and angry, Spalletti fiercely gesticulated at the sidelines even in the closing phase of the game.
