- Blade star sets two Marvel records
Hugh Jackman (55) reclaims the record for longest Marvel career with "Deadpool & Wolverine" - or so fans thought. But they were wrong. The title goes to Wesley Snipes (62), who makes a surprise cameo as Blade in the film, beating Jackman's Wolverine by two years.
The Guinness World Records has officially confirmed Wesley Snipes' record. It's been 25 years and 340 days since his first appearance in "Blade" (1998) and his mini-comeback in "Deadpool & Wolverine".
Wesley Snipes sets two records
Wesley Snipes celebrated the news on X. "What? Really? Do I get a certificate too?", the '90s star wrote on the messaging service.
With his cameo, Snipes also set a second record. He's the Marvel hero with the largest gap between two films. Between the second and last "Blade" film in 2004 and "Deadpool & Wolverine", there's a gap of 19 years and 231 days, surpassing Alfred Molina. Between Molina's performances as Doctor Octopus in "Spider-Man 2" (2004) and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021), there was a 17-year gap.
This trio lost the Marvel record to Wesley Snipes
Hugh Jackman first appeared as Wolverine in 2000's "X-Men". He shared the record for longest-lived Marvel character with Patrick Stewart (84), who played Professor X in the "X-Men" films. Jackman and Stewart were the only characters from the 2000 "X-Men" debut to appear in 2017's "Logan - The Wolverine".
In 2021, the "X-Men" duo lost their top spot. Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, and J.K. Simmons appeared in "Spider-Man: No Way Home". Like Snipes' cameo in "Deadpool & Wolverine", it was a brief appearance, coming 19 years and 225 days after "Spider-Man".
Another Marvel star also had a brief appearance in "Deadpool & Wolverine" that expanded a record. Chris Evans (43) was seen in his 11th Marvel film, but not as Captain America, whom he played seven times. Instead, he played Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, whom he previously played in two "Fantastic Four" films.
Wesley Snipes, however, may not be able to expand his record anytime soon. Mahershala Ali (50) will take over the role of Blade in the 2025 "Blade" reboot.
